Last Monday night (19th), SongLink presented the third annual LIPA NIGHT at The Bedford in Balham, featuring six "astonishing performances" (in the words of host Tony Moore), by current students of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The standard of music on display was truly awe-inspiring, with each of the female-fronted bands showing a maturity of performance, musicianship and songwriting ability that would sit comfortably alongside anything else on the charts.

The evening demonstrated exactly why LIPA has such a first-class reputation for building careers, with any one of Monday's acts set to follow in the footsteps of such names as Sandie Thom, The Wombats or The Zutons.  The evening also featured a guest appearance by Jim Diamond singing his worldwide hits "I Won't Let You Down" and "Should Have Known Better," while LIPA Lead Patron Sir Paul McCartney supported the event by sending a special message to the performers and crew, along with flowers and bottles of champagne. The show was attended by LIPA CEO Mark Featherstone-Witty, music tutor Eddie Lundon (of China Crisis fame) who organised the trip down from Liverpool, and various music industry luminaries.
