LIVERPOOL, July 30th: SongLink founder David Stark presented the songwriting prizes at LIPA's annual Graduation Day, held at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall in the presence of Lead Patron Sir Paul McCartney and hosted by Principal/CEO Mark Featherstone-Witty. This year David presented three SongLink prizes instead of the traditional two, to Jessica Staveley-Taylor, Joe Kenny and Alex Pavelich. David commented, "The standard of year's songs submitted was so high that it was impossible to pick just two winners, so I was happy to give an extra award today. It's always a pleasure to hear what LIPA music students are creating, they always come up with something brilliant and memorable, and this year was certainly no exception."
Also at the three-hour ceremony, Paul McCartney gave the closing speech after honouring Midge Ure, Jonathan Pryce and various others as LIPA Companions, while producers Steve Levine and Tony Platt presented the inaugural MPG Award for production. Also present were Sir George Martin, Mike McCartney, Tony Moore, Peter Filleul, Malcolm Atkins, Spencer Leigh and others.
