Nominees for the Ivor Novello Awards 2014 on May 22nd include London Grammar (Warner/Chappell); John Newman & co-writer Steve Booker (Universal/B-Unique); and the Palma Violets (Universal Music) in the category Best Song Musically & Lyrically. Contenders for Best Contemporary Song are Everything Everything (Universal); Disclosure ft Sam Smith (Universal/Sony/ATV Music & others); and James Blake (Universal), while PRS for Music Most Performed Work nominees are Emeli Sandé (Sony/ATV/Arlon Songs/Stellar Songs); Passenger (Sony/ATV); and Olly Murs ft Flo Rida (Warner/Chappell/Universal/Salli Isaak/Imagem Music). Best Original Film Score is between Henry Jackman for "Captain Phillips" (Sony/ATV); Steven Price for "Gravity" (Universal); and Simon Fisher Turner for "The Epic of Everest" (Mute Song). The 59th Ivors ceremony takes place at Grosvenor House Hotel on London's Park Lane, where Special Awards will also include International Achievement; Lifetime Achievement; Outstanding Song Collection; PRS for Music Outstanding Contribution to British Music; PRS for Music Special International Award; The Ivors Classical Music Award; The Ivors Inspiration Award; and Songwriter(s) of the Year. CONCHITA WINS EUROVISION
The Eurovision Song Contest 2014 held in Copenhagen on May 10th was won by Austrian trans-gender performer Conchita Wurst with the song "Rise Like A Phoenix", co-written by SongLink subscriber Charlie Mason (USA) with Joey Patulka, Ali Zuckowski and Julian Maas. Runners-up were country duo the Common Linnets from The Netherlands with "Calm After The Storm" (Ilse DeLange, JB Meijers, Rob Crosby, Matthew Crosby, Jake Etheridge), while in third place was Sweden's Sanna Nielsen with "Undo" (Fredrik Kempe, David Kreuger, Hamed "K-One" Pirouzpanah). UK entrant Molly Smitten-Downes ended up in 17th place with her song "Children Of The Universe", while Ireland failed to qualify for the grand final this year.

PARLIAMENTARY JAZZ AWARDS 2014
The 2014 Parliamentary Jazz Awards were held on May 13th at the Houses of Parliament, the awards being organised by the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group (APPJAG) and sponsored by music licensing company PPL for the 10th year running. The winners included Christine Tobin (Jazz Vocalist of the Year); Arun Ghosh (Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year); Troykestra (Jazz Album of the Year); Phil Meadows (Jazz Newcomer of the Year); Jamie Cullum (Jazz Media Award); Issie Barratt (Jazz Education Award); photographer David Redfern (Services to Jazz Award), and 84-year old British jazz icon Chris Barber (Special APPJAG Award). The awards were hosted by Jon Newey of Jazzwise magazine, with award presenters including Darius Brubeck, Elaine Delmar and Lord David Steel. Back by popular demand at the ceremony were special guest performances by James Pearson and The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars.
"The Parliamentary Jazz Awards is one way MPs and Peers of all political parties aim to support British jazz by recognising and honouring the amazing musical talent we have in this country.
